How Owl’s Nest Excellence got its name.
Owl’s Nest Excellence started as a freelance ghostwriting and photography company in 2016. When I took Caitlyn Pyle’s course for proofreading I intended to work from home and help my husband with his website Pietan Publications.
He had a good proofreader so I took Sarah Turner’s WYWTF course because I wanted to fill a childhood dream to write. In the back of my mind, I thought it might help me understand online computer sales. I didn’t know what copywriting was but I leaped in when they said it was sales writing.
Our garage was bursting with books and he needed to complete the ministry field. He had only a few subscribers and wasn’t using his email list for campaigns. I wanted to help my husband. He didn’t want me because he didn’t believe in nor understand sales copy. His website was simple and barren. He was so busy working to support the family.
He listened to our coach Chelli and tentatively allowed me onto the website along with Phil, a friend who had donated to the cause. I loved to write and wished to support him so I took Sarah’s course. I also worked with Wellness Works as a first time Copywriter doing sales strategy and a website update.
How did Owl’s Nest Excellence get its name? Owls referred to me as the eighties I wore giant round glasses. My mother-in-law wore cat eyeglasses. It was a kind of joke.
Nest meant where to work, which was at home. Excellence is for the requirements of proofreading—which I don’t offer yet.
I combined my interests and registered in 2023 as a small home-based business. I work in my day job as a caregiver and satisfy health and wellness interests. I love to help people. I can be in this niche because I do my therapies myself; the nerdy me is constantly studying health books and implementing them in my life.
I got my niche because I was already interested in it. Being a homeschooling Mom has had its benefits; it made me a forever learner. Teaching my kids I learned to learn which was a big difference from an average student.
One thing I didn’t do was teach them about sales. I didn’t understand anything about it. Money was an awkward question because we didn’t have any. My husband handled all the bills. He was the sole wage earner while I had my nine children and homeschooled them.
After I started learning about money it was a learning curve. Money to me was a tool to get things out of life. Tools to help one’s neighbor. Tools to learn important skills, and implement them for the good of man.
Owl’s Nest Excellence is a combo of what I enjoy doing. I could work in the health and wellness field while working from home and writing—a childhood dream. This combo is the other reason I answered Sarah’s ad. I didn’t understand how to sell the other. Then Owl’s Nest pivoted to add copywriting and content writing to the program.
I wanted to work from home so I spent our savings to gain skills for copywriting. It was fast-paced. I swept the streets for clients while being so nervous and shaky. It took only four people before I had success. My client took a chance on me so I gave him everything back that I could. He liked that I was so invested in his business and I wanted him to grow. We’re still in touch and I send him stuff. He gave me some honest feedback. I gave him an honest appraisal of possible marketing strategies.
Sarah had a two-week return policy and I kept going with the community. I didn’t understand how funnels work although I went down them many times. I subscribe to eartheracademy and wealth factory.
I still had some things to learn and social media teacher Jenna Kutcher had a course that I purchased. And there was a bonus for Instagram. I had failed a computer class in high school. I enrolled in a computer course to remedy that. It was from Microsoft Office.
Although Owl’s Nest is a small company without quick growth it still is mine. I’ve come a long way; I have a long way to go. Life is busy: Deaths, births, marriages, old age, sickness.
